Environment Agency Abu Dhabi (EAD) has overall responsibility for the prioritisation, system implementation and management of biodiversity and natural resources within the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
Maven and NZ's Department of Conservation worked in collaboration with EAD to build a concessions and partnership framework for the conservation estate in the Emirate. This high-level framework captures key issues such as regulation, policy, environmental protection, economic value and commercialisation. Prototypes for two EAD protected areas were developed including management and implementation plans and a draft application process and implementation plans. The framework articulates practical guidelines for the sustainable management of protected areas and biodiversity, while enabling successful commercial operations across the conservation estate.
